Best Time to Visit Henderson: A Month-by-Month Guide

Henderson's desert calendar splits cleanly into a hot half-year, a busy convention half-year and two shoulder windows that suit most travellers best.

Spring: March, April and May

March is the sweet spot for a first Henderson trip. Daytime highs sit near 24C, the wind that scours the valley in February has settled, and room rates along the Water Street district and Lake Las Vegas are still below summer levels. Wildflower colour peaks in the Mojave around mid-March, and the Clark County Museum on Boulder Highway is comfortable to walk in the morning. If you want a pool, check the opening dates carefully: many Henderson properties open seasonal pools in mid-March, but some hold off until April.

April and May warm to roughly 29C and 34C. This is the strongest window for outdoor plans that start early: the River Mountains Loop Trail, the birding wetlands at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve off Galleria Drive, and the trailheads above Lake Mead. Book by early April if your dates fall on a convention week in Las Vegas, because Henderson fills as an overflow market. By late May the afternoon heat is real and I would shift any hiking to a 6am start.

Autumn: September, October and November

September still carries summer heat, around 37C early in the month, easing to 31C by the end. October is the best month of the year for Henderson in my view: highs near 27C, cool evenings, and the whole Lake Mead shoreline and Sloan Canyon petroglyph area walkable without a dawn alarm. Rates climb back toward spring levels, and weekend availability near Lake Las Vegas tightens quickly.

November cools to roughly 20C, which suits golf and long walks but is too cold for most pools. Thanksgiving week is the busiest autumn period and Henderson hotels fill with families visiting Las Vegas for the holiday. If you want autumn without the crowd, aim for the first two weeks of November.

Winter: December, January and February

Winter is mild by national standards and genuinely underrated. Daytime highs sit near 15C, nights drop close to 4C, and rain is light but does arrive in occasional storm days. Pools are mostly closed or unheated, so choose a property with a heated indoor pool or spa if swimming matters. Rates are among the lowest of the year outside the New Year period, and Las Vegas convention traffic is light in early January, which keeps Henderson quiet.

February is a transitional month with gusty winds and the start of the spring convention season. It is a fine time for the Clark County Museum, the Water Street antique shops and indoor dining, less good for lake activities. If your trip is flexible and you want the best combination of weather and value, book late March or the second half of October.

Questions, answered

What is the cheapest month to stay in Henderson?

Late June through August offers the lowest room rates, followed by early December and January outside the holiday week. Summer heat, regularly above 38C, is the trade-off, so many visitors prefer the modest discounts of late November instead.

How far is Henderson from the Las Vegas Strip?

Most Henderson hotels sit 16 to 24 kilometres from the Strip, roughly 20 to 30 minutes by car depending on traffic on Interstate 215 and Interstate 515. Green Valley is closest, Lake Las Vegas is furthest east, and Boulder Highway properties sit between the two.

When should I book for a spring visit?

Book six to eight weeks ahead for March and April, and earlier if your dates coincide with a major Las Vegas convention, since Henderson absorbs the overflow. October is the other fast-selling window, and Lake Las Vegas weekend rooms can tighten a month out.
