Where to Stay in Lisbon: Neighbourhoods, Real Prices and How to Choose

Pick the right Lisbon neighbourhood for your trip — with real street names, price bands, and transport times.

Baixa, Chiado and Avenida: the flat, walkable centre

Baixa sits between Praça do Comércio on the river and Praça da Figueira, grid streets rebuilt after 1755. Chiado climbs from Rua Garrett to Largo do Carmo; Avenida da Liberdade runs north to Marquês de Pombal. Expect €120–200 a night for a double in a three-star, €250–400 in a five-star on Avenida. Everything is walkable: Rossio and Baixa-Chiado metro on the green and blue lines, tram 28 from Praça Martim Moniz, and a flat 10-minute walk from Cais do Sodré station to the riverfront. This is the area I book for first-timers who want to step out and be in the middle of it.
