Where to Stay in Lekki: Neighbourhoods, Real Prices and How to Choose

Lekki is 40km of Lagos shoreline split into very different pockets — here is where each one actually makes sense for a short stay.

Lekki Phase 1: the practical base

Lekki Phase 1 sits between the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the toll gate on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and it is the most walkable part of the corridor. Admiralty Way and Fola Osibo Road hold most of the restaurants, pharmacies and supermarkets, with Circle Mall a short drive toward Jakande. A clean mid-range double room here runs roughly ₦45,000–₦90,000 a night; branded or serviced apartments with a generator that actually carries the AC land nearer ₦120,000–₦200,000.

Traffic is the deciding factor. From Phase 1 you reach Victoria Island in 20–40 minutes off-peak via the Link Bridge, but the same run can take 90 minutes on a Friday evening. If your trip is meetings on the Island and dinners in Lekki, book Phase 1 and walk to dinner. If your trip is the beach, you are paying a premium to sit in the wrong place.

Ikate, Chevron and VGC: quiet, middle of the road

Ikate Elegushi, east of Phase 1 along the expressway, has become the value pocket — newer boutique hotels and short-let apartments at ₦40,000–₦80,000 for a double, with the Lekki Leisure Lake and the Elegushi beach stretch close by. Chevron Drive and the streets around the Chevron roundabout are calmer still, and Victoria Garden City, behind its own gate off the expressway, is the quietest of all: gated, green, and 10–25 minutes from the toll gate depending on the hour.

VGC suits families and anyone working remotely for a week — you get space, a garden and reliable power, but you need a car or a driver for everything, and ride-hailing into VGC at night can mean a wait. Chevron is the honest compromise: cheaper than Phase 1, less isolated than VGC, and close enough to Ikate that dinner is a five-minute drive.

Ajah, Sangotedo and the beach belt

Past the toll gate, Ajah and Sangotedo are where prices drop and distances stretch. Budget rooms around Ajah run ₦25,000–₦50,000; the trade-off is that you are 15–30km from the Island and the expressway is unforgiving between 6:30am and 9:30am. Sangotedo puts you near Novare Mall and the Lekki-Epe corridor turnoffs, useful if you are heading onward to Ibeju-Lekki, the Free Trade Zone or the beaches.

For the beach itself — Landmark, Atican, La Campagne Tropicana further out — staying in Ajah or Sangotedo cuts your morning drive to 20–40 minutes. November to March is the dry season and the best window; July to September brings heavy rain and washed-out beach days. Beachside accommodation is thin and books out fast at weekends, so reserve midweek when rates and traffic both ease.

How I would choose, and what to skip

Book Lekki Phase 1 if you have Island meetings, Ikate or Chevron if you want value with a car, VGC for a quiet family week, and Ajah or Sangotedo if the beach or the eastern corridor is your priority. Confirm three things before paying: that the property has an inverter or solar backup, that airport pickup from Murtala Muhammed is included or quoted, and that the address is genuinely inside the neighbourhood advertised — several listings claim Lekki while sitting well past Ajah.

What I would skip: the cheapest rooms directly on the expressway, where noise and dust erase the saving; and any booking without a written cancellation policy in rainy season, when flight and road plans shift. Ask for a room away from the generator house. A generator running from 9pm is normal in Lekki, and a room on top of it is the single most common complaint in reviews.
